About Manchester

Manchester, is one of (if not the most) vibrant city in the UK. It offers a many attractions for work and pleasure visitors. Immerse yourself in the city’s rich history by visiting the gothic architecture at John Rylands Library and Manchester Cathedral. Art enthusiasts can explore fine art at Manchester Art Gallery and the Whitworth. For sports fans, a tour of the grounds of the worlds most famous football club Manchester United is a must along with the National Football Museum.  If you’re into science, the Science and Industry Museum is a great place to visit and the Manchester Museum is free, and based within the grounds of the University.  Manchester is also renowned for its entertainment and nights out , with theatres, and legendary clubs and bars and has an incredible food scene from the ‘curry mile’ to much more.

Travel

Manchester is exceptionally well connected.

Visitors can travel from Manchester Airport to the City centre very easily.

Train: The airport’s terminals are linked directly to the city centre by a fast, frequent 24-hour train link to both Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations. There are ticket machines available. If you arrive in the morning before e.g. 9.30 you will need a PEAK time ticket.

Tram: There is a frequent tram from the Airport to the City Centre. The tram takes up to 1 hour and run every 12 minutes. The price is £4.60. You can just scan your credit/debit card at the yellow terminals (as shown in image below) at the start AND end of journey. If you need  a receipt buy a ticket from one of the machines at the tram station for a 4 zone ticket. Full information here https://tfgm.com and can download an app for stops/destination information.

Taxi: A taxi from the airport to the University will cost approximately £20 during off-peak time. We DO NOT recommend this as it is slower, more expensive than the excellent public transport.

Buses: Many buses run into the city from the airport but the tram option is easier.
